HONG KONG- Hong Kong's air passenger
departure tax will be increased from 50 Hong Kong dollars (6.42 US
dollars) to 80 dollars from October 1, a government statement said Friday.
"We consider it appropriate to bring the revised tax level into
effect on October 1, taking into account the need to allow the airline
industry time to make the necessary arrangements," a government
spokesman said.
The tax will first be applied to departures from the Hong Kong
International Airport.
But passengers departing from the heliport at the Hong Kong-Macau ferry
terminal will also face increases after consultations with the helicopter
industry on collection arrangements, he added.
