Newspapers Limited The Balearic Islands insist a £4 environmental tax on tourists will go ahead from January 2002 to help fund restoration and clean-up projects on the islands. The tax has been approved by the islands' parliament but resistance from hoteliers, who will collect the tax, has delayed its introduction. The move comes as Majorca
looks to extend its season and double the number of British visitors in
winter to 400,000. More than 330 free concerts and 60 festivals are being
staged in the islands this winter. |
